11/11/11 is being touted as a once in a lifetime event. Depending on who you ask, it’s an auspicious day or potentially a day where “a gateway will open, and innocent blood will be spilt.”

For veterans the world over, today is a day honoring the spilling of blood. Veterans Day marks the Armistice of World War 1, a war which was supposed to be the war to end all wars.

For Bill Elder, the 11th of November is his birthday. I ran into Mr. Elder at the World War 2 Memorial in Washington DC back in 2004. It was his 82nd birthday. He served on the U.S.S. Bering Strait during the war.

Thank a veteran today. You don’t have to agree with government policy to recognize the service that others give.
