Sara Bareilles has an amazing new song out called Brave. Give it a listen:
How often do we stay silent out of fear? How often do we walk away from a situation because we don’t want to start conflict? I know I’ve done it more than once. Every time you walk away, you put a little chink into your soul, a little spot that makes you just that tiny bit weaker. You don’t have to go through life being a confrontation jerk, but notice how much we praise those who step up and stand for their convictions? It’s a mark of character in part because it’s so hard to do it day in and day out.
Being brave is never about being unafraid. Brave means doing something that scares you, facing down the thing you fear. You don’t have to charge into a machine gun nest to be brave. Brave can be facing down a boss who scares you. It can be standing up for a friend who is being bullied. It can be offering an opinion that others disagree with. Brave acts are just as varied as we are.
What about you? Have you found your brave today?
