The interiors of the churches in Venice are truly stunning. The sculpture, painting, and mosaic work that you find can keep you occupied for years. San Zanipolo (as it’s know in Venice), is a beautiful basicillica. Started in 1333, it was finished 100 years later. Done in the Italian Gothic style, the interior space is huge, and well lit. Starting in the 1500s, the rules of Venice known as doges, had their funerals and burials conducted in San Zanipolo. This is a detail look at one of those tombs. Amazing mosaic work, and incredible color.
